Christmas with Figgy Pudding and Muppets

In 1979, The Muppets joined John Denver on a simply splendid made-for-TV Christmas special entitled: John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together in which Gonzo and Miss Piggy have the following mid-song communications mishap (you can hear the song here but I full recommend renting/buying the video! — alas, it’s not on Netflix, let me know in comments if you find it!):

Gonzo:  Now bring us some figgy pudding, now… (singing)
Gonzo:  No, no, no. Figgy pudding. It’s made with figs.
Miss Piggy:  Oh.
Gonzo:  …and bacon (softly)
Miss Piggy:  What?

As far as I can tell, a Figgy Pudding does not involve bacon (but with the popularity of chocolate covered bacon, the rise of NYC Dessert Truck‘s warm chocolate bread pudding with bacon custard sauce and well, the popularity of bacon in general, I would not be surprised if a Figgy Pudding with Bacon Glaze recipe were to appear).  As far as I can tell from shows like Alton Brown’s Good Eats: Twas’ The Night Before Good Eats, a Figgy Pudding is like a heavily spiced pound cake with bits of figs and possibly other dried fruits inside and glazed.

And to conclude: The Muppets: Ringing of the Bells
Beaker, Swedish Chef, and Monster reenact Ringing of the Bells in this super-cute video!  And as an added bonus, there’s some heckling at the end by Statler and Waldorf.

Merry Christmas, Foodies!
